1981 Honda Civic 1500 DX Hatchback

This 1981 Honda Civic 1500 DX hatchback is said to have remained with the family of its original owner in California until 2021, and it was sold on BaT in April 2022. The car is finished in white over beige cloth and vinyl upholstery and powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four paired with a three-speed automatic transaxle. Equipment includes an AM/FM cassette stereo, a rear defroster, front mud flaps, and 13″ steel wheels. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2025, this second-generation Civic is now offered at no reserve in New York with a tool kit and a clean Maryland title.
The car left the factory finished in Shetland White, and it has black pinstripes and chrome-finished bumpers with black end caps as well as a driver-side mirror, front mud flaps, a rear-window wiper and washer, and pop-out rear quarter windows. The finish on the windshield trim is cracking, and paint chips and other blemishes are visible along the body. Photos of paint meter readings are shown in the gallery below.
Steel 13″ wheels wear Honda center caps and are mounted with 155/80 Kumho Solus tires with 2020 date codes. Wear is visible on the wheels. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes up front along with drums out back.
The interior features front bucket seats and a fold-down rear bench upholstered in beige cloth and vinyl along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include an AM/FM cassette stereo, a rear defroster, and a remote hatch release. The air conditioning system is said to need a recharge, and the rear cargo area carpeting is torn.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and a combination gauge displaying fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles. A potential odometer rollback is noted on the Carfax report in June 1998, and true mileage is unknown.
The 1.5-liter CVCC inline-four was factory rated at 67 horsepower and 78 ft-lb of torque, which is sent to the front wheels through a three-speed automatic transaxle. The carburetor is said to have been rebuilt in 2022. A previous owner noted slow shifting when cold.
Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.
The Carfax report shows the aforementioned potential odometer rollback along with no accidents or other damage from the first entry in June 1990.
