1979 Ferrari 400i Automatic

This 1979 Ferrari 400 Automatic i was acquired out of a collection in 2025 by the selling dealer, who tells us the vehicle had been in long-term ownership, and a refurbishment is reported, however documentation did not convey with the car. Finished in white over blue leather, it is powered by a fuel-injected 4.8L Colombo quad-cam V12, which is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes independent suspension, disc brakes, 15″ Cromodora wheels, power windows, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. This 400 Automatic i shows 20k kilometers (~13k miles) and is offered in New York with an owner’s manual, a car show placard, a tool kit, and a clean Montana title.
The 400 features bodywork by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina. The cars were not officially offered in the US, though some were imported and federalized in-period via the gray market, and this one’s second owner acquired it in Los Angeles in 1987, per the placard included in the sale.
Exterior details include pop-up quad headlights, fog lights, hood louvers, quad circular taillights, a black taillight panel, black bumpers, Pininfarina badging, and quad exhaust outlets. Paint-meter readings and close-up photos of the body panels and trim are shown in the gallery below.
The car features an independent front and rear suspension, and stopping power is provided by discs at all four corners. The 15″ five-lug Cromodora five-spoke alloy wheels were mounted with Toyo Extensa A/S tires by the selling dealer, who also flushed the brake fluid.
Upholstered in blue leather, the front bucket and individual rear seats are complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior amenities include power windows, a cassette stereo, a central rear armrest, and air conditioning with supplementary rear-seat controls.
The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including an 8k-rpm tachometer accompanied by a 300-km/h speedometer and gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. A quartz clock and gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, and amperage are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 20k kilometers (~13k miles).
The 4.8-liter F101 Colombo quad-cam V12 is equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 310 horsepower. An oil change was completed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
