This 1972 BMW 2002 was ordered new through BMW’s European Delivery program, and it remained in the original owner’s family until the previous owner’s acquisition in 1994. The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four was overhauled between 1999 and 2000 with high-compression pistons, a performance camshaft, and a replacement cylinder head, and further modifications include a Weber downdraft carburetor, a Stahl header, a performance exhaust system, and Racing Dynamics springs. Finished in Sahara over Tan Skai vinyl, the car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, a sunroof, 13″ steel wheels, reclining front seats, a Sony CD stereo, and Coco floor mats. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2025, this BMW 2002 is now offered in New York at no reserve with a BMW European Delivery Purchase Order, BMW literature, service records dating back to 1972, owner’s manuals, spare parts, and a clean Massachusetts title.
The car is finished in Sahara (006) and features a sunroof, a driver-side mirror, pop-out rear windows, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The front fenders were replaced in 1991 to address rust near the parking lights, and the hood, front valance, and rocker panels were repainted at that time. Photos of paint meter readings and close-up images of exterior blemishes and paint touch-ups are viewable in the gallery below.
The suspension has been revised with Racing Dynamics springs and Bilstein shocks at all four corners, and the anti-sway bars are equipped with polyurethane end link bushings that were added in 2019. The 13″ steel wheels feature polished covers and are mounted with 165-series Michelin XAS tires that were installed in 2025. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The reclining seating front seats are upholstered in Tan Skai vinyl, and interior amenities include reclining front seats, a Sony CD stereo, Coco floor mats, and a heated rear window. The front seatbelts were replaced in 2024.
A brown leather wrap protects the three-spoke steering wheel, and VDO instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and an optional tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and now shows 57k miles, approximately 25 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four was overhauled between 1999 and 2000, and the rotating assembly was balanced by Lindskog Balancing of Boxborough, Massachusetts. The selling dealer tells us it was reassembled with Mahle 9.3:1 pistons, a replacement cylinder head, and a Schrick performance camshaft. A Weber downdraft carburetor was also fitted along with a Stahl header and a 2″ exhaust system. A collection of removed stock components will accompany the car.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The rear axle boots were replaced in 2019, and the clutch master cylinder was replaced in August 2022. Oil seepage is noted on the differential.
The BMW European Delivery Purchase Order lists optional equipment and a balance due of $3,495.80. A first aid kit, an emergency triangle, owner’s manuals, BMW literature, and service records dating back to 1972 are included in the sale.
