This 1967 Lotus Elan S3 SE underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment circa 2009 before it was listed on BaT in December 2022ย and sold on BaT in May 2023. The body was refinished in red over replacement black leatherette upholstery, the frame was replaced, a CV-axle conversion kit was installed, and the 1.6-liter inline-four was fitted with dual Weber carburetors, aftermarket camshafts, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Power is transmitted via a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a black soft top and boot, 13โณ Panasport wheels, flared fenders, Sebring-style mirrors, retractable headlights, and a wood veneer dashboard. This Elan S3 is now offered in New York on dealer consignment at no reserve with spare parts, service records, a tonneau cover, and a clean New Jersey title.
The fiberglass body is finished in red with silver-painted bumpers and is said to have been refurbished in 2009 by Kampena Motors of Sonoma, California. The frame is said to have been replaced, reinforced, and powder-coated under previous ownership, at which time the fenders were flared. Exterior equipment includes a black soft top and top boot, vacuum-operated pop-up headlamps, and dual Sebring-style mirrors. The rear bumper was repaired in November 2014. Paint chips are noted on the front panels, and the bodywork is cracked above the exhaust outlet.
The pin-drive 13โณ Panasport wheels are secured by three-lobe knock-offs and wear 155/80 Kumho Solus TA51a tires that were mounted in May 2023. The car features four-wheel independent suspension, and braking is handled by discs at all four corners. Smaller-diameter rear springs are noted to have been added for tire clearance, and a power brake booster was installed in 2018. The brake fluid was flushed and the pads were replaced in May 2024.
The cockpit was re-trimmed during the refurbishment, and black leatherette covers the seats, door panels, and dash pad. Toggle switches are housed in the wood veneer dashboard, and additional equipment includes power windows, a wood shift knob, and dual 12-volt outlets.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel sits ahead of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. Auxiliary readouts for oil temperature, engine vacuum, fuel level, and voltage are mounted in the center stack along with a clock. The tachometer was replaced in May 2024. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, and a previous owner stated the mileage was not accurate. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter inline-four is said to have been overhauled by Kampena Motors in 2009 and features twin Weber 40 DCOE carburetors, K&N air filters, a tubular stainless-steel exhaust manifold, and an aluminum radiator with a thermostatically controlled fan. Additional noted work included installing aftermarket camshafts, larger valves, an electronic ignition, an aftermarket alternator, a gear-reduction starter, a front-mounted oil cooler, and a replacement fuel tank and trunk-mounted auxiliary fuel pump. The battery was replaced in September 2023, and an oil change was performed in May 2024. The selling dealer notes oil seepage emanating from the oil pan and the rear main seal.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. CV-joint axles were installed in 2016, and exhaust gases flow through stainless-steel piping.
Service manuals and records are included in the sale along with spare parts and a car cover.
